Low purine diet
If your doctor requires a 24 hour urine collection for uric acid, you may be required to follow this diet for three
days prior to the collection.
Avoid the following:
the following are acceptable for a low purine diet:
• Organ meats (brain, kidney, liver)
• Fruits
• Wild game
• Fruit juices
• Poultry (chicken, duck, turkey)
• Vegetables (except those to the left)
• Meat (beef, lamb, pork, veal)
• Nuts
• Meat extracts (Bonox, Vegemite)
• Cereals, breads (except wholegrain products)
• Fish
• Sweets
• Shellfish
• Beverages (coffee, tea, carbonated)
• Wholegrain products
• Fats
• Green peas, dried legumes
• Eggs
• Cauliflower
• Cow’s milk
• Asparagus
• Dairy products.
• Spinach
• Mushrooms
• Aspirin
• Cocoa.
