Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill
• April 22, 2010 : the Deepwater Horizon oil rig
sank in the Gulf of Mexico
• this created a massive oil spill 1500 metres
below the surface
• during the 87 days of leakage, approximately
five million barrels of oil were spilled
• the oil spill resulted in the death of thousands
of birds and marine animals
• worst environmental disaster in US history
