Things to remember about when caring for you and your baby:
Every baby is different you will get to know YOUR baby with
time.
Breastfeeding is encouraged during the first year of life.
While your baby will have his/her own schedule, most newborns
will eat 2 to 4 ounces every one to four hours, Watch the CLOCK.
Always consult your doctor prior to introducing solid foods.
Your baby's stomach is tiny and he/she is only physical y able to
accommodate smal amounts of food.
Always put your baby to sleep on his/her back to prevent the
risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
After leaving the hospital, a healthy newborn should be seen by a
doctor at one, two, four, six, nine and twelve months of age.
Never warm a bottle in a microwave - it gets too hot.
Playing with your baby is important to his development.
Talk to your baby as you play, bathe, & feed him.
Do not shake your baby.
Your baby cannot talk & should NEVER be punished for crying.
Becoming a good mother takes time & patience, but you can do it!

About Us:
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is a leading national service organization that promotes
sisterhood, scholarship, and service in the community. Rho Sigma Graduate Chapter was founded
in 1936 by seven college graduates. From the beginning, the main interest of the chapter has been
service to Detroit. In 1936, Rho Sigma was the first sorority in the city to have a career conference
for African Americans. Rho Sigma is also very proud of its scholarship activities. Thousands of
dollars are donated each year to young women in our Undergraduate chapters and Rhoers at the
high school level to support them in furthering their education. Additionally, Rho Sigma has
supported many other programs in Detroit and beyond.
The Rho Sigma Foundation (RSF) is the non-profit, tax-exempt (501-c3) community service arm of
the Detroit Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated. The mission of RSF is to
organize, promote, and implement charitable and educational activities to lessen neighborhood
tensions, eliminate prejudice and discrimination, defend human and civil rights secured by law,
combat the deterioration of communities, and attack juvenile delinquency.
Project CRADLE Care is a prenatal education and resource program created in partnership with the
March of Dimes that seeks to improve pregnancy outcomes in high-risk communities by increasing
the number of women of childbearing age who receive adequate prenatal education and prenatal
care and who better understand proper infant care and child development.
